My Homemade Seed Kit for AeroGarden June 30, 2007

Filed under: planting — Jung @ 2:24 am

30 days ago, when it was time to replace my lettuce garden after the final harvest, I started aching for more interesting things to grow.

Instead of getting the Aerogrow’s Master Gardener Seed Kit $39.95, I decided to make my own.

Found online a nice mix of French Mesclun Seeds include Chicories, Endives, Lettuces, Mache, Spinach, and Arugula at 1500 seeds/$4.40 and General Hydroponics’ Maxigro plant food 1.5 pounds/$11.95. Then I went to the local hardware store bought a long piece of foam — AC weather seal to be exact (pictured) :-) that shall make about more than a hundred seed pods for $2.99. Cut them to fit the recycled seed baskets, made a gap for the seeds… Voila (only French word I still remember after a year of intense course at the New School… :-) ) my home made AeroGrow Seed Kit!

So here is my new French Mesclun Salad Garden at 30 days young, I feel like I know each one of the plants. For the time spent researching, a few dollar saved, maybe a bit silly, but all that fun I had in figuring out the way was priceless :-)

Took my dear friends Kirsten and Rob Riemen of the Nexus Instituut from the Netherlands to Pure Food and Wine tonight for another scrumptious dinner. This place has become my home away from home ever since I turned raw vegan.

Chef Sarma herself and her book Raw Food Real World have been great inspiration to me. And, how I adore chefs — especially a beautiful chef like her!

I had Creamy Cauliflower Samosas with Banana Tamarind Sauce with mango chutney, garam masala and mint for first course, Lapsang Smoked Portobelo Mushroom with Caper Potato Salad with hawthorne valley ruby kraut, wildflower honey mustard for second course, and a most decadent Chocolate Molten Lava Cake with mocha mousse, chocolate sauce, vanilla pink peppercorn ice cream for dessert… This is actually the first time I ever had raw potatoes, and they are delicious! I have been very fond of the pink peppercorn ice cream for its perfect touch of nutmeg… yummmm! Love love love love Sarma!

Sarma signed my copy of her book last summer :-)

All that fun I had… June 22, 2007

Finally said goodbye to the school I taught at for the past decade today. My performing schedule made it impossible for me to show up every Friday for those kids at the school (some of them already left for college!) Of all the sweetest words they wrote down for my tribute, I am blushful as I am touched… This one gets me though… only if people know how goofy and childish I really am

Robert the Surrealist June 21, 2007

While Robert was shooting (with my HD video camera) the still life fruit plate (belonged to his adorable wify Celine) for his experimental surrealistic expressionism theatrical short documentary, I was babbling in the background about the actual pineapple and fruit, this couldn’t be funnier… :-)

Filmed after the fund raising concert I played tonight at the Polish Consulate during the beautifully catered dinner. Robert is my favorite photographer/computer genius.

This is my first Flash video, kind of figured it out while riding in the subway last weekend…

Lee/gendary and Soomi Kim June 19, 2007

Leegendary

SoomiRushed from our gig at the Cervantes over to finally see my friend Soomi on stage at the Theatre Row.

She is chosen by the First National Asian American Theater Festival to present her original performance piece about Bruce Lee.

I was dazzled by Soomi’s display of strength and marvelous discipline in martial arts, and also her refined acting skill of conveying the masculine hero — Bruce Lee himself… Bravo!

The whole production with the superb cast, its video visual effects, original folkian improvisational style music by Jen, and the additional recorded music by the most fabulous guitarist Adam… What an experience! Everything is so seamlessly done, and so well. Soomi, you have me as a fan :-)

Pugs Meet Up June 16, 2007

pugs pugs

Found out about the pugs meet up group, armed with my pug bag, I leisurely walked down riverside in the most beautiful sunshine today to meet pugs and their proud “parents” as a fact finding mission.

Even though I am moving to the country soon to pursue my dream of having a vegetable garden with lots of bunnies running around, I am still amazed with how one can find anything and everything to do in this city :-) I have never seen so many pugs all together. It wasn’t a large turn out, but there were about 20 pugs at the playground. Pictured is my very very favorite one, too bad the owner wasn’t there for me to get the breeder’s information. I think I am going to add a pug into my family mix, my home IS going to turn into a zoo after all… How I adore all living creatures…

What a peacefully happy day it turned out to be :-)

Stir Not Fry June 15, 2007

Derek Sitr Not Fry
Made some fabulous raw vegan “Stir not Fry” with Asian marinade and Raw Hazelnut “Ice no Cream” for Amelia’s visit tonight. Amelia hung the pug bag on her daddy Derek, but was too tired to pose for the photo-op… another perfect and happy summer night 8)
